Auchrannie Spa Resort - The Perfect Place For a Getaway!

Get a blissful night's sleep in the super-comfy beds

If you're planning a trip to the beautiful Isle of Arran there's really only one place to stay: the stunning, 4-star Auchrannie Spa Resort (www.auchrannie.co.uk). Read on if you'd like to hear about my visit there...

Since our family's first visit to Auchrannie - some eighteen years ago - we've seen it blossom from a genteel 16 bedroom dowager house hotel - complete with two restaurants and a swimming pool - to a stylish, well-groomed spa resort which, effortlessly, bends-over-backwards to be family friendly. Even pooches are welcome! Equipped with everything to ensure you have an amazing holiday - whatever the weather (being Scotland, it can be changeable!), the management team at Auchrannie have thought of absolutely everything. And ensuring that their guests have the best stay possible is clearly their main objective.

THE ROOMS

There are two separate 'hotels' to chose from, and this year we opted to stay in one of the executive family rooms in the newly-extended Auchrannie Spa Resort. These have a separate small bedroom with bunk-beds for the kids (with a cosy-cabin-like feel) which have individual TV screens at the foot of each bed As you can see from the photos these family rooms are stylish, contemporary and are every bit as comfortable as they look.

The beds were super-comfy and the curtains were thickly line ensuring a blissful night's sleep. And, if you fancy a good lie-in, breakfast is served until 11.00am! While we're on the subject of breakfast I need to add that Auchrannie offers everything you could wish for, whether you chose to order from the well-stocked (and frequently replenished buffet) or the delights on the menu, all tastes are catered for.

Well-appointed & immaculate rooms

But, back to the rooms! To add to what I've said above, they were also spacious and immaculate - not a speck of dust in sight! Tasteful accessories were dotted around, creating a lovely, homely feel.

The luxurious bathroom, with its generously proportioned shower, capacious bath and fluffy white towels was made extra perfect by the addition of some rather zingy Arran Aromatics (www.arran.com) bath products.

Even the bathroom had tasteful artwork on the walls!

Perfect shower to wake you up in the morning!

I managed to while away hours soaking in a hot bubble-bath in this blissful bathroom!

Just add a crisp glass of Prosecco, a tub full of bubbles & a good book!

Check out the funky fire on the wall!

WHERE TO EAT

The  Auchrannie attention to detail wasn't in short supply in the restaurants. On this stay, we chose to dine in the Cruize Bar Brasserie and Brambles Seafood Grill, where the food was, quite simply, sublime! Every taste was catered for, from fussy kids (or grown-ups!) to rugged, outdoorsy types who'd worked up a hearty appetite or those who preferred the super-healthy options such as their yummy super-salad sprinkled with quinoa. And Mr Scott was very pleased to see that the wine list was pretty impressive, too! If you're wondering as to the short-supply of foodie photos, then I'm afraid to say that we were so enthusiastic about eating our scrumptious plates of food that we forgot to take any snaps. Which is a real shame as every plateful was photogenic.

If you're fancying a more intimate and formal dining experience then Auchrannie's eighteen69 Scottish tapas restaurant, situated in the large conservatory of the House Hotel, is perfect. And, though we didn't dine there on our last visit, we have every other time we've stayed there and the food was simply stunning!

WHAT ELSE IS AT THE RESORT?

You may be wondering why Auchrannie calls itself a resort and I can tell you that it's for very good reason. There are a whole host of activities to chose from! If you fancy a quiet hour or two of 'me time', then you can head over to the Aspa situated in the newer building. Here you'll find a whole host of pamper treatments from manicures and facials to hot-stone treatments and massages using Espa skincare products (www.espaskincare.com) which smell divine!

If you fancy doing something active then Auchrannie's on-site Arran Adventure Centre is for you. Whether it be a Segway or mountain biking session, archery or gorge walking, you can book it all here. We booked our girls a segway session and they loved it.

Segways lined up waiting for the next session

Where to book your Arran Adventures

The little ones are well-catered for with the Play Barn - an indoor soft-play area - and pottery painting at Pots and Pieces. Teens can escape annoying parents at the Teen Zone. And did I|mention there's also another swimming pool at the Aspa Hotel?

Perfect place for rainy days

So that just about concludes my low-down on our family stay on the beautiful Isle of Arran (read my Arran blog post here  (holiday-post-isle-of-arran-summer-visit). But I can't finish without saying that, in their quest to create the perfect holiday destination, the owners of Auchrannie have been nothing short of meticulous in getting every tiny little detail absolutely spot-on. I've already mentioned the quality of the food, the luxurious accommodation and wide choice of activities. But, there's one important detail that can make the difference to a stay somewhere, and that is the staff. At Auchrannie we found them to be, without exception, an absolute delight. Clearly chosen well, everyone was friendly and helpful, with nothing being too much trouble - a real credit to the hotel.

That leaves me with only one thing to add, and that is a huge thank you to all involved at Auchrannie Spa Resort for giving us the most perfect family holiday we can remember.

We can't wait to return!

Getting there

Regular ferry crossings to Arran are operated by Caledonian Macbrayne (www.calmac.co.uk) and Auchrannie offer a package deal allowing you to book your crossing together with your hotel accommodation.
