Yorkshire Lavender - A Summer Visit!

Yorkshire Lavender (www.yorkshirelavender.com )is a place we love to visit as often as possible, and the summer months are most definitely the best time to do so. When we called there a couple of weeks ago it looked absolutely stunning...

The plants were in full bloom so as soon as we stepped out of the car we were struck by the calming fragrance of lavender  that filled the air, wafted around, very kindly, by a gentle breeze.

It really is the most beautiful place to wander around, getting lost in your thoughts...

Or having a few quiet moments to yourself sitting on a bench...

You could even loose yourself in the lavender maze if you fancy...

The planting is stunning and as you wander around you can't help but brush against the plants, which releases even more of their amazing scent. And you're even encouraged to touch them!

I love the rich purpley-blue of this variety, which you can buy, along with a host of other healthy, well-cared for plants. And they don't just have a wide selection of lavenders, their herb section is well-stocked too; the variety of thyme they have is impressive, and my garden is now full of them!

The contrast between the purple and white varieties here is beautiful and crisp...

There's plenty of knowledgeable staff on hand if you need any advice. And the very precise signs dotted about here and there are pretty useful too!

There's even a small herd of Yorkshire Lavender deer!

This lavender filled hanging basket was stunning!

And these plants in pots looked so vibrant and healthy...

As did the ones in the  Bog Garden...

This Monarda, or Bargamot as it's also known, was very striking and fragrant.

When you've finished admiring the plants, and if you're feeling peckish there's a huge tea room serving delicious food, including lavender ice-cream, scones with lavender jam and lavender tea served by a host of friendly staff.

And when you're done you can browse around the well-stocked gift shop that sells an array of lavender scented goodies including Arran Aromatics (arranaromatics.com), or even Yorkshire Lavender's own brand of smellies made with their own lavender oil.

Gold Winner for Yorkshire in Bloom from 2007-2015, Yorkshire Lavender couldn't be in a prettier location, set in the Howardian Hills, over-looking the flat plains of the Vale of York; on a sunny day you can see for miles around! Entry is, surprisingly, free of charge and it's a place that suits young or old alike, so makes a perfect family trip out.

There are so many things to love about Yorkshire Lavender, why not pop in next time you're near York?
